Modular Kitchen and Wardrobes, Designed Together

Doing the kitchen and the wardrobes as one project is cheaper in time and better in result than doing them as two. One measurement visit covers the whole flat, one designer holds the finish palette across every room, one installation team comes once rather than twice, and one 10-year written warranty covers the lot. For a new flat in Kolkata this is usually how it should be done – the kitchen and the bedrooms are the same kind of work, in the same materials, from the same factory.

One brand across the flat, or two vendors

Sliding or hinged wardrobes?

This is the first decision, and the room should make it rather than preference.

• Sliding doors need no clearance in front, which makes them the right answer in a Kolkata bedroom where the bed sits close to the wardrobe. The trade-off is that you only ever see half the wardrobe at once, and the track needs occasional cleaning.
• Hinged doors open the whole wardrobe to view and cost less for the same width – but they need about two feet of clear floor in front. In a compact bedroom that is often two feet you do not have.

The internals matter more than the doors

A wardrobe is hanging space, shelf space and drawer space in the right proportion for the person using it. Long hanging for sarees and coats; double hanging for shirts and trousers; drawers for folded clothes; a locker section; a loft above for suitcases and seasonal bedding. Those proportions should differ between a couple’s wardrobe, a child’s and a guest room – and a designer ought to ask before drawing rather than repeat a standard internal layout in every room.

Whole-flat combinations

• 2 BHK – kitchen plus two bedroom wardrobes. Usually a compact L-shaped kitchen and two sliding-door wardrobes, with a crockery unit in the dining area as the common addition. The kitchen side of this is worked through on our small modular kitchen page.
• 3 BHK – kitchen plus three wardrobes, often with one hinged wardrobe in the larger bedroom and sliding units elsewhere, plus a study or storage unit.

Wardrobes are priced on their width and internal specification, the same running-foot logic as a kitchen, so a combined estimate is itemised room by room. You see the kitchen, each wardrobe and any extra units as separate lines and can adjust or defer any of them – you are never handed one flat figure. Beyond kitchen and wardrobes

How the combined design session works

1. One site visit – the designer measures the kitchen and every bedroom in a single appointment, noting ceiling heights, beams, window positions and door swings throughout.
2. One requirement session – who uses which room, what needs storing, how much hanging versus folded clothing, whether each room wants a loft.
3. 3D designs for every room – kitchen and wardrobes drawn together, so you see the finishes working across the flat rather than room by room.
4. One itemised estimate – every unit in every room priced separately, so you can phase or adjust anything.
5. One manufacturing run and one installation – everything made together and fitted in one scheduled period, instead of two disruptions months apart.

If the flat is new, book before you move in. Measuring an empty flat is faster, installation is far easier without furniture in the way, and you move into a finished home rather than living around the work.
