Kutchina Water Purifiers in Kolkata
The right purifier depends on what is actually in your water supply - and that varies across Kolkata, between municipal supply, borewell and tanker-fed buildings. Below is the Kutchina range, and how to work out which technology you need.
RO, UV or UF - which do you need?
These are not competing grades of the same thing. They remove different problems, which is why most modern purifiers combine them.
- RO (reverse osmosis) removes dissolved solids - salts, heavy metals, hardness. It is what you need when TDS is high, which is typical of borewell-fed supply. It is unnecessary, and slightly wasteful, on already-soft municipal water.
- UV deals with bacteria and viruses rather than dissolved solids. It is the right answer where the water is soft but the supply or the storage is not reliably clean.
- UF (ultrafiltration) removes suspended particles and cysts without electricity, and is often paired with the other two.
- Mineral or TDS control puts back the essential minerals RO strips out, which is worth having on any RO unit you will drink from daily.
Start with your water, not the spec sheet
Get your supply tested, or simply tell us your locality and building - whether you are on municipal supply, a borewell, or tanker deliveries changes the recommendation. Buying a high-TDS RO unit for soft municipal water means paying more, wasting more water in the reject line and stripping minerals you did not need to remove.
Where the purifier goes
A purifier needs a water inlet, a drain for the reject line on RO models, and a power point - none of which the average Kolkata kitchen has spare in the right corner. If your kitchen is being built or renovated, plan the purifier position with the plumbing rather than after it. Our kitchen renovation guide covers what that involves.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an RO purifier in Kolkata?
It depends on your supply. RO is the right choice for borewell or high-TDS water; on soft municipal supply a UV or UV+UF unit is usually sufficient and wastes less water. Tell us your locality and building and we will advise.
What is the difference between RO and UV?
RO removes dissolved solids such as salts, hardness and heavy metals. UV kills bacteria and viruses but leaves dissolved solids untouched. They solve different problems, which is why many units combine both.
Do you install and service purifiers?
Yes. Installation covers the inlet, the drain line for RO models and the power point. Filters and membranes are consumables that need periodic replacement, and service is available through the Kutchina network.
Can the purifier be fitted inside my kitchen cabinets?
Often yes, provided there is access to the inlet, drain and a power point, and the unit can still be opened for filter changes. Plan it at the design stage so the cabinet is sized for it rather than cut afterwards.
Not sure which purifier your water needs?
Tell us your locality and whether you are on municipal supply, a borewell or tankers - we will recommend the right technology rather than the biggest unit.
